The 4th of July is the national holiday when Independence Day of USA is celebrated. It coincides with the day on which the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776, in which the country proclaimed its formal separation from the British Empire. But it’s also a damn date for your presidents. Three presidents of the United States, two first consecutive, died just on July 4.

It was the case of John Adams, president between March 4, 1797, and March 4, 1801, and Thomas Jefferson, president between March 4, 1801, and March 4, 1809. Incidentally, the only signatories of the Declaration of Independence who would later be Presidents of the United States died on the same day: July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the Declaration.

James Monroe, another Father of the Nation who became president of the United States (although he was not a signatory of the Declaration of Independence), also died on July 4, but this time in 1831, becoming the third consecutive president to die at the party.

On the other hand, Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President, was born on July 4, 1872, and, so far, he is the only president of the United States born this date.

Flags, balloons, and fireworks

Independence Day is a national holiday marked by patriotic outdoor exhibitions. Many politicians take advantage of this day to appear at a public event and praise the history of the United States.

Families celebrate Independence Day by attending an outdoor picnic. The predominant decorations are balloons and flags and they contain mainly the colors of the United States flag: red, white and blue.

Parades usually take place in the morning, while fireworks begin at the end of the afternoon or evening.
